Much of the material reflects Bowen's interest and expertise in agricultural matters. Tapes and transcripts of interviews with Charles Evers, Hodding Carter III, Flavous Hutchinson, Jan Lewis, John Crawford, Virginia Hooper and Douglas Conner. The interviews were conducted by Simpson as research for his PhD dissertation on the Loyalist Democratic Party of Mississippi.
